Based in Redditch, Worcestershire, Aspen Medical has over 25 years’ experience in the medical device industry, where we have been committed to producing innovative and effective products at affordable prices that meet the needs of both our customers and their patients.

 

The Redditch locality is rich in Needlemaking history and the origins of Aspen Medical can be dated back to Henry Millward & Sons in 1730 and William Hall & Co in 1842. Since this time there have been a number of merger and acquisitions that have changed the face of the company, the most recent being in July 2012, when Hill-Rom Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: HRC) completed the purchase of Aspen Surgical Products. We are proud to own and sell trusted brands such as Steriseal® Sorbsan®, C-View™ and Sorbaderm™, but also have the ability to work with customers on private label/OEM projects.

 

Aspen Medical employs c.130 people across the UK, 100 of whom are employed in our dedicated Manufacturing facility and Head Office in Redditch. We are an ISO 13485 and FDA-registered facility as well as an authorised EU representative. Lastly, we offer a knowledgeable Sales and Customer Service Team to help address any product questions or ordering needs that you might have.

 

Aspen Surgical

 

Aspen Surgical is a worldwide leader of specialty surgical products. Their products include surgical needles, skin markers, disposable light handles, instrument guards, anti-fog solutions, fluid management products and surgical blades and scalpels. Specific brands consist of Bard-Parker®, Richard-Allan, Dr. Fog®, Sterion®, Colby, Steriseal®, and Oxboro™. In addition, they have an on-site New Product Development Team which is dedicated to pursuing new product opportunities.

 

With 500 staff worldwide, Aspen Surgical operates in excess of 100,000 square feet between their headquarters location in Caledonia, Michigan and state of the art manufacturing facility in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico.

 

Together, Aspen Surgical and Aspen Medical can offer on-site capabilities in Injection Molding, Die Cutting, Converting, Assembly, Packaging, and Metal Wire Forming. We have an experienced Quality Assurance/Regulatory Department with Sterility Assurance capabilities, including EtO and Gamma Sterilization.

Gareth Wood

Managing Director

 

Mr Wood joined the Company as Business Manager for the Woundcare and Ophthalmics division of former owner Unomedical A/S in May 2005. He was appointed Managing Director in March 2009 following the acquisition of the business by Aspen Surgical Products Holdings Inc.

 

A graduate of Birmingham University, and fluent French speaker, he has over 25 years experience in the Healthcare Industry, covering sales and Marketing, Strategy Development, Product Development, Manufacturing and General Management. He has held a range of commercial positions at Smith & Nephew and at Hill-Rom, including a period of four years based in France, prior to joining the business.


 

 

 

 

Steve Thomas

Finance Director & Company Secretary

 

Mr Thomas joined Aspen Medical in July 2009 as Finance Director & Company Secretary. Prior to this he was Commercial Finance Director of ICI Paints Plc. He qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant in July 1996. He has 20 years Financial and Management Accounting experience gained in a number of Blue Chip businesses including ICI Plc, Rio Tinto Alcan and General Motors.


 

 

 

 

Robert Bennett

Business Manager - Surgical Division

 

Mr Bennett joined the company in June 1988. He has held a wide range of senior roles across the business, covering Manufacturing, Procurement, Sales, both UK and International, and B2B Contracts.


As Business Manager – Needles, he is responsible for the growth strategy of this business, including UK direct Sales, International Distribution and B2B Partnerships, Marketing and New Product Development.


 

 

 

 

Chris Hill

Business Manager - Woundcare Division

 

Mr Hill joined Aspen Medical in February 2010 to lead the Sales, Marketing and Product Development teams and to drive the company’s growth strategy for the Advanced Woundcare business.

 

With a background in textile technology and qualifications in Business Studies, Mr Hill has worked for over 14 years in the Medical Device Industry and was Sales & Marketing Manager for Advancis Medical, and General Manager for ManukaMed Limited, prior to joining Aspen Medical.

 

His commercial experience includes setting up direct Sales, managing Strategic Partners (both Distributor and Supplier on a National and International level), bringing novel wound dressings and other Medical Devices to market. His commercial experience is complimented by know how in regulatory affairs having achieved BS EN ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 accreditation.

 

 

 

Maurice Dowling

Manufacturing Manager

 

Mr Dowling has over 30 years in medical device manufacturing. With a Post-Graduate Diploma in Operations, he has held many management roles covering production, process engineering, logistics, procurement, distribution, quality and regulatory affairs.


Responsible for Aspen Medical’s operations, Mr Dowling’s focus is on lean manufacturing and 6 sigma quality for our products.


 

 

 

 

Richard Allen
Customer Services Manager

 

Mr Allen joined the Company in 1995. His experience in the business covers production planning, procurement, logistics, distribution and latterly customer service.

 

Appointed Customer Service Manager in August 2008, he is responsible for the speed and reliability with which we serve our customers around the world.


 

 

 

 

Wendy Russell

HR Manager

 

Mrs Russell joined Aspen Medical in January 2010 as Human Resources Manager. Her experience prior to Aspen Medical includes six years of HR Management in both the public and private sector, covering all areas of Human Resources.

 

With a BSc in Business and Management from the University of Bradford and an MA in Human Resources Management from the University of Gloucestershire, Wendy currently manages the Human Resources Strategy to recruit, retain and develop Aspen’s employees.

Tim Phipps
Head of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs

 

Mr Phipps joined Aspen Medical in Sept 2010. Qualified in Quality Management and Applied Biology, Mr Phipps’s career spans 25 years within the Medical Device industry covering a variety of Regulatory and Quality related roles, including Director of QA and RA for Diomed. Mr Phipps has also provided comprehensive consultancy services to a wide range of medical device companies in the UK as well as being a Lead Auditor for an accredited Notified Body.

 

Responsible for Aspen's Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance department, Mr Phipps’s focus is on compliance with European and International regulatory standards as well as supporting the growth strategy for the business.
